Major and Miner Earle!!

I find the father-son identities of Francis Sobieski Earle ("Major Earle" who actually served in the army - both in New York and again in Michigan) - and while he's in his mid-forties and would be of substantial age to be a metallurgist / assayer for the Vizina mine; it seems that would be his son - twenty-year-old Francis Chipman Earle. He's the math-whizz who is treasurer of the dramatic society and (?) treasurer of the Episcopal church (?) Is it the older or younger one who took everyone by surprise in his on-stage portrayal of "the old farmer"?

One of them was the partner of Mr. Banning, and together they ran the ice cream store at Fourth near Fremont - which one???

Anyone want to help me out, here? - Paul

Hi Paul

My understanding is that -
Frank Earle Jnr was the assayer and actor.

Major Frank Earle Snr was the treasurer of the church and dramatic society.
As the Major listed himself as a Capitalist, I would suspect that it was the Major who was involved in the ice-cream business.

Cheers

Perhaps a coincidence -- there was a Virgie Earle that performed at the Bird Cage in June 1888. (I can't resist tossing in BC tidbits.)

Thank you both - Peter for info and Mike for a laugh. Does anyone else miss the threads that appeared on BJs - sort of open style? This setup seems to be more "closed in" by title. Just thought I'd toss that comment in.

Best! paul

Hi Paul and Mike
I recall the open style of the BJ Board. It has its advantages, but some threads were far too long and others allowed posters to jump in anywhere and out of chronological order. I personally found that to be unhelpful when trying to follow a thread and see who said what and when. I do prefer this more ordered style. You know exactly who said what and when and what they are responding to.
Just my 2 cents worth.

BJ's was usually a good, even great, forum, but it did have its quirks. It has to be a handful riding herd on any number of commentators, many of whom might disagree over who fired the first when, how, and why. There were some good and serious contributors. I did like the woman who wrote the pro-cowboy books. I trust this forum will grow over time.

Hi Dan, the pro cowboy author is Joyce Aros. I'm not sure she knows about the establishment of the new chat board. I'm sure once she hears about it she will jump in and start some threads.
